How to Design Goalie Masks in Procreate 3D
UPDATE (as of 02/13/2026): You now have three options! I recently discovered browsing Instagram that Apple's Made on iPad campaign has released their own template for designing 3D goalie masks. Check out the links above - or search "Made on iPad" on Google! Cheers!
By now - if you’ve seen my previous posts - you might be thinking: “Cool goalie masks…but how can I design my own in Procreate!?” Well you’re in luck, because you’ve got two options (FREE & PAID)! I went with the second option because the FREE option didn’t exist at the time…
Option 1) The FREE option
Thanks to the talented goalie mask artist - JBoAirbrush - the files to design your own goalie mask concepts are available on their YouTube channel, where JBo details how to do just that in the: “3D Goalie Mask Procreate Tutorial.” Feel free to check this resource out!
Option 2) The PAID option
Otherwise, you can take the more technical, paid route by purchasing a 3D Bauer mask model off of TurboSquid. Once purchased, you’ll have to download the OBJ file format and do some technical gymnastics in Blender (on Mac or PC), to eventually separate the 3D model into its base components, including: the Shell, Cage, Backplate, Padding and Straps.
Moreover, and it’s been a while - so I don’t quite recall exactly - but you may also have to UV map the meshes of the components - so that they are precisely drawable in Procreate.
But yeah, it takes some technical know-how - which ChatGPT was plenty of help in guiding me through the process. Eventually though, you’ll be able to transfer the OBJ components directly to your iPad to import into Procreate! From there, the sky is your limit! Of course, if you want to render the finalized mask with its components all together, you’ll have to figure that out too!
Regardless, I’ve included some images of what everything should look like once decomposed into components. I should note, that due to TurboSquid’s License agreement - I can’t share the final files, unfortunately.
In any case, I hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below and I’ll try my best to guide you. Or, someone who is more diligent with their documentation on Option 2 could chime in too!
